Portraits of Saul Leiter - Alan Porter
Saul almost always carried a camera with him. Henry Wolf, his close friend, fondly called him ‘Snappy’, perhaps a play on his persistent camera snapping on all occasions or maybe a sly comment on his manner of dress. It is ironic then that Saul, who was never shy about photographing anyone, generally disliked being photographed himself. I was fortunate that he sometimes indulged my interest in that area. This is a collection of my snaps of him and a few of his long time domestic partner Soames Bantry.
